This application (version 2.0) is designed to aid children in learning to add. Problems on varying levels of difficulty are presented and the child is given two chances to give a correct response. Four levels of difficulty are provided; Easy, Medium, Hard and Very Hard. The maximum values of the addends are 5, 8, 11, and 14 respectively. Using the Macintalk Speech Synthesizer (Apple Computer, Inc.), the computer can speak the problem, answer, and a random phrase indicating whether the correct answer was given or not. Macintalk can be obtained from most bulletin boards or from dealers. If Macintalk is not installed, then chords are played to indicate a correct (high) or incorrect (low) answer.
This program follows the Macintosh interface much better than version 1.0 (my very first program with ZBasic). About Add... allows the shareware information to be displayed. Quit (Command-Q) returns to the Finder. To change levels of difficulty, just click anywhere in the left window to activate it and restart.
Version 2.0 also has the option of selecting 2 or 3 addends. Just pull down the numbers menu and select Two (Command-2) or Three (Command-3) and then the Go button.
This program was developed using ZBasic 5.0 and has been tested on a Macintosh SE with a DayStar Digital accelerator in both 68000 and 68030 modes.
